SAVE COCKS CRESCENT

We will be holding a street stall on 9th July outside the Co-Op Food between 10am and 3pm. Come and find out more about our campaign to stop overdevelopment in New Malden.

An eight week consultation has begun on the ‘Cocks Crescent’ planning brief, which, if passed, will affect our town forever.

Residents have been led on by Kingston Council for the last two years to believe that these plans will include a new leisure centre, pool and town square. The plans were released with no guarantee of any of the above.

In reality, the plans could see an additional 520 homes on the site (the Cambridge Estate has only 800 homes!) and chaos for local residents all across New Malden. The homes could be built on the site of the former resource centre, on Hobkirk House and along Blagdon Road. Perhaps worst of all, a ten-storey tower block would be erected and would be the sore thumb in our town.

The Malden Independent Community Organisation are standing up for New Malden residents and saying NO to these proposals which would have a devastating impact on our town. Please join us in responding to this consultation to REJECT the plans and SAVE COCKS CRESCENT.

We urge you to respond to the consultation here: http://consult.kingston.gov.uk/portal/planning/cocks_cresent_spd and, if you agree with us, to add your voice below.

What your Council think of you!

I am in the Blagdon Road multi storey car park and it is 6pm. I bought a parking ticket and then I notice a group of youths hanging around on the first and second floors, this concerned me as they were not doing anything, had they been skateboarding I would not have been too bothered but other than watching people come and go and not helped by one of them trying to hide below the walls. I was a bit concerned.
I looked around to see if there are any cameras about but I couldn’t see any, I left quickly but was then concerned for my car which had my laptop in it so I decided to park in the Car Park outside the Malden Centre Gym.
Unfortunately the only way to do that is to drive all the way back to the Fountain roundabout – or get a traffic violation ticket by turning right on Cocks Crescent.
There is a camera of course, it is fixed to the external wall to catch unsuspecting motorist, certainly not gangs of youths. This camera is to catch cars turning right onto Cocks Crescent as they leave one of these unsavoury car parks.
Why is there a “no right turn here”? Some evenings there is so much traffic on the high street that you can’t get out of Blagdon Road onto the high street where again you can’t turn right!
To literally get a car to the other side of the road it can take 35 minutes which of course is more traffic on the high street and the fountain roundabout which creates more pollution.
The car park is extremely well lit, but unfortunately not with low energy LED lighting so again more money wasted many thousands of pounds worth of electricity each year and therefore more pollution. The Council were advised of the need for Low Energy Lighting many years ago
and wasted many thousands but all they want to do is fine a few motorists, Cause that’s easy, stick a camera up and sit back and rake in the money!
Get rid of the no right turn at Cocks Cresent, get rid of the camera policing it and install cameras inside the multi storey car park. Install LED lighting and save a lot more money than you would fine a few motorists, Your Council Tax Payers.
